A new worldwide cyberattack that is WannaCry Ransomware attack by the Wannacry, also known as WannaCry, Wcry, WanaCrypt, WanaCryptor, or Wanna Decryptor, Ransome and ranworm.
This targeted computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system by encrypting data and changing the extensions to wnry, wcry, wncry, and wncrypt.
The attack began on Friday, 12 May 2017, and within a day was reported to have infected more than 230,000 computers in over 150 countries.
Any kind of malware that runs on our computer give exchange in the return that is kidnapped our files. The files that have been kidnapped may be any multimedia files, office files, system files or data files. WannaCry is a form of ransomware that locks up files on your computer and encrypts them in a way that you cannot access them anymore. It targets Microsoft’s widely used Windows operating system. When a system is infected, a pop-up window appears with instructions on how to pay a ransom amount.
How Wannacry Spread?
It enters into a computer when a user mistakenly downloads a malicious file. It can also spread via worm, embedding itself within a network. It is instead of relying on humans to spread it by clicking there was no guarantee that files must be accessed after payment to the hacker.
Types of WannaCry:
There are two types of malware:
First, this encrypts your file and gets payment from you.
Second is lock screen, which locks the computer and stops the running until you cannot pay the ransom. It entirely shows the pop-up messages to make payment in order to log in again.
Do We Have To Pay?
We do not have to pay any penny to the ransom if we did it then we are making a new market for cyber criminals and there is no way to stop this crime. Rather than make this mistake we have to learn a lesson.
How We Can Recover Our Files?
Make sure backup your data regularly and recover your files time to time. Don’t open the emails that are totally annoying for you or from the person who is against of your company. Don’t visit the websites that are unsecured. If you do this then scan your computer immediately using Kaspersky antivirus or other that you have in your system. You have to install a pop-up blocker in your web browser that helps you to block pop-up messages. As always, prevention is better than the cure. If you have a good security solution and have backups then you should not have any problems. Keep enjoying the technology and feel free.
Wanncry “KILL SWITCH”
On Saturday, a cyber security researcher told AFP news agency that he had discovered a “kill switch” that can prevent the spread of WannaCry. The software contained a URL that, when discovered and registered by a security researcher to track activity from infected machines, was found to act as a “kill switch” that shut down the software before it executed its payload, stopping the spread of the ransom ware.
